Effective date: May 24, 2026
Neon Cursor ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit neoncursor.com or use the Neon Cursor browser extension, and how that information is used.
1. Information we collect
Website — automatic data
When you visit our website, our servers and analytics providers may automatically record:
- Your IP address and approximate geographic region
- Browser type, operating system, and device class
- Pages you view, the date and time of access, and the referring URL
- Anonymous interaction events such as cursor downloads or ratings
Website — ratings
When you rate a cursor, we store the rating value together with a one-way SHA-256 hash of your IP address and user agent. We use this hash only to prevent duplicate votes; it cannot be reversed to identify you personally.
Browser extension
The Neon Cursor browser extension is designed around a single purpose: replacing your default mouse cursor with a custom cursor on the websites you visit. Its data practices are intentionally minimal:
- Local preferences only. Your selected cursor, the on/off state, the chosen cursor size, and your personal "My Collection" are stored locally in your browser using the standard
chrome.storageAPI. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers. - No personal data collected. The extension does not collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information, authentication credentials, financial information, health information, or location data.
- No reading of your browsing. Although the extension requires access to all websites (the
<all_urls>host permission), this access is used only to draw the custom cursor on the page. The extension does not read, collect, log, or transmit the content of pages you visit, your browsing history, the URLs you open, your keystrokes, clipboard, or anything you type into forms. - Fetching cursors. To show the cursor catalog, the extension requests cursor data (category names and cursor/pointer image files) from our own website, neoncursor.com. As with any normal web request, our server receives the connecting IP address and user agent to deliver the response; we do not use this to build user profiles, and the request contains no information about which other sites you are browsing.
- No ads, no tracking, no remote code. The extension contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and executes no remotely hosted code. All of its HTML, CSS, and JavaScript ship inside the published package; only static data (JSON and images) is fetched from neoncursor.com.
2. Cookies and similar technologies (website only)
On our website we use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site functional and to understand how visitors use it. The browser extension does not use cookies. The main website categories are:
- Essential cookies — required for basic site functionality (for example, remembering your theme preference).
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to give us aggregated statistics about traffic and engagement.
- Advertising cookies — set by Google AdSense and its partners to serve and measure ads. Google may use this information to personalise the ads you see, including across other sites.
You can disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings, or manage Google's ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
3. Third-party services
The following third parties may receive information about your visit to our website:
- Google Analytics — anonymised usage statistics. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google AdSense — serves advertising on the website. Google's ad partners may set cookies to personalise ads.
- Chrome Web Store — handles installation and updates of our browser extension. Google's terms apply to the install process.
These advertising and analytics services apply to the website only and are not part of the browser extension.
4. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the website and extension
- Prevent abuse such as duplicate ratings or malicious uploads
- Understand which content visitors find useful
- Serve relevant advertising via Google AdSense (website only)
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we do not use or transfer data from the extension for any purpose unrelated to its single purpose described above.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights by contacting us at contact@neoncursor.com.
EU and UK visitors are protected under the GDPR; California residents under the CCPA. We will respond to verifiable requests within the timeframes those laws require.
6. Children's privacy
Neon Cursor is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted server access, and regular software updates. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review the policy periodically.
